The importance of secure identification has increased due to tragic events since September 11, 2001. Public safety and national security are headline topics in the Honolulu Advertiser and Star Bulletin. Airline scanning technologies, homeland security, competency of security employees, and hiring of airline workers are under discussion. Terrorism has heightened the need for Federal, State, and Local and Foreign governments to consider sophisticated methodologies to positively identify individuals. The above issues magnify a need for biometric workforce education. New methodologies to authenticate a person’s identification are needed. Biometric methods are amongst the most secure and convenient authentication tools.
